Lancashire vs Middlesex – Clydesdale Bank 40 – Match Update – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 earn easy win in reduced game
Lancashire claimed an easy 7-wicket win (D/L method) over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 in a rain-shortened Clydesdale Bank 40 Group A game, played at Old Trafford, Manchester, on July 16, 2012.
The match faced several rain interventions, eventually reduced to a 16-over affair. The visitors were dealt a blow after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eoin-Joseph-Gerard-Morgan-c56032 failed to show up before the toss as his train from London Euston was cancelled.
Middlesex however, had themselves to blame for a below-par total of 97, with the middle-order failing to tackle the Lancs bowlers, especially http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Croft-c2583 and Karl Brown ensured that their side moved joint second in the Group A, with a game in hand.
The first rain delay came after just 2.3 overs, washing out two hours of play. Resumption saw Middlesex starting well before tailing away with only two batters reaching double figures. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dawid-Malan-c1344, the opener, was the highest run-getter with a fluent 48 off 36 but his innings was the only respectable knock his team could conjure up.
His wicket, taken by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Morgan-c77707, scoring 14 of those runs.
Apart from Shahzad, all bowlers were economical and went under six runs per over. Parry’s four-for was complimented well by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Smith-c2704 and Shahzad, all of whom bagged a wicket each.
The chase began poorly after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Harold-William-Stephenson-c61707 Crook to leave his side in trouble at 16 for 2.
However, Croft and Brown managed the rescue act ably, playing cautiously in the beginning before cutting loose. Both added 79, which took them just three runs adrift of the target.
Croft fell in the 14th over to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Dexter-c2091, scoring 45 but Brown stayed till the end and hit the winning runs to complete an easy victory for Lancashire with 10 balls to spare.
