Lance Armstrong admired Tom Boonen's win at Paris-Roubaix
One of the most successful stage race cyclists of all time, Lance Armstrong congratulated Tom Boonen on his fourth victory at the Paris-Roubaix.
He posted the message on his twitter page, "Congratulations to Tom Boonen on another amazing Paris Roubaix victory, his fourth of his career. Very impressive".
Boonen rode the 257.5 kilometre race brilliantly and overcame his major competitors to claim the top podium spot on Sunday.
He finished the race in a quickest time of 5 hours, 55 minutes and 22 seconds to receive the honours.
Sebastien Turgot of Team Europcar finished at the second position with a deficit of 1 minute and 39 seconds on Boonen.
Alessandro Ballan of Team BMC, Juan Antonio Flecha of Team Sky Procycling and Niki Terpstra of Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step achieved the next four positions.
Lars Boom of Team Rabobank finished 1 minute and 43 seconds behind, occupying the sixth position while Lars Boom of Team Rabobank bagged the sixth spot.
Tom has already succeeded during the 2005, 2008 and 2009 versions of the race.
His victory during the most recent edition of the event has definitely made him one of the strongest cyclists at the event.
The Belgian has now equalled the record of most number of victories at Paris-Roubaix equalling the previous best by Roger De Vlaeminck.
Tom has also claimed the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix in a same year for the second time.
The 31-year-old was delighted after the victory and briefed it as one of the best days in his career.
“When I won Flanders I realized that I also needed a little bit of luck in Roubaix. If I look on these past two or three weeks it’s been amazing”.
“It’s my second double. Now I’m the only guy that ever did this double two times”.
“I realize now that I’ll probably be one of the best, maybe the best, guy on the cobblestones that ever rode on these roads”, Boonen noted.
Former cyclist Armstrong visited the Paris-Roubaix with his former side Team RadioShack-Nissan.
The American enjoyed the top level of sport throughout his extensive career (1992-2012).
He was accused of fraud and doping during his stay with the former side, Team US Postal (1998-2004) but the two-year investigation on the case finally concluded with no charges on Armstrong.
