Lance Berkman hoping to come back as St. Louis Cardinals try for World Series finals – NLCS Update

St. Louis Cardinals' injured first baseman Lance Berkman is hoping the club will make it to the World Series finals wherein there will be a possibility of him playing. Berkman could only appear in 32 games this year, as he was plagued by a knee injury.
"If we made it to the World Series, there may be a possibility," said Berkman. "I don't even know if they would even run me out there, though, because I haven't been playing, but, you know, physically I'm starting to feel better. It's getting to the point where it would be within the realm of possibility if that were something they were interested in doing."
The National League Championship Series currently stands tied at 1-all. The Cardinals, who had won the 2011 World Series are eyeing another championship here. That is a possibility, undeniably and Berkman could possibly be a part of it.
The player, much to his chagrin, had to have three stints on the disabled list this year. The fact that he could only appear in 32 out of 162 games clearly showed he could not do his bit to contribute for the Cardinals.
The past season saw Berkman being the strength of the Cardinals’ offence, having maintained a consistent .301 batting average in 145 games that he appeared in. Berkman had no less than 94 RBIs and 31 homers to his credit.
That amazing performance was conspicuously missing this year due to injury. It was Allen Craig who was to replace Berkman. Craig has not been a disappointment for the team, or Berkman.
"The guy that replaced me is Allen [Craig], and he was probably the most productive hitter per at-bat in the Major Leagues this year," Berkman said. "It's just a deep organization with a lot of talent.”
Lance Berkman’s absence this year will unmistakably be marked owing to the consistency and the experience he has. With .296 batting average, Berkman has embellished his stats with 360 home-runs, 1200 RBIs, having had 1843 hits with .544 slugging percentage.
However, if the Cardinals make it to the World Series again, Berkman does stand a chance to reappear and capably execute what he did in the past season.
