Lancer or Mazda3?

Question

Im looking to get a car in about a month and these are my two choices. Do either have any hidden fees, problems, defects, etc i should know about?

I have never driven the lancer but I can say this.

my Dodge Caravan has a mitsubishi motor that has 200 thousand miles on it and it still kickin strong.

so this tells you that the reliability is better than mazda and they are way cheaper to maintain.

The Mazda3 is great, Its a blast to drive but its not the most reliable thing in the world. (its really a ford)

repairs are going to be really expensive.

the Mazda 3 uses a electric power steering pump that cost $ 1,000 to replace.

but overall its a great car... choose what is best for you. i probably would get a mazda with a nice warranty.... but i would get a lancer to keep forever

the lancer isn't reallly known for safety or reliability.

Go for the Mazda. Two of my friends own one, and i test drove one myself and i was impressed. Surprisingly, the mazda is pretty reliable, good on gas, and is really fun to drive.

While the regular lancer (not evo) is overpriced, lacks in power, and reliability, check consumer reports on it yourself.

You should just be ready to face the facts when it comes to safety. Both of these cars don't rank nearly has high as they should.

I would look into honda, toyota, nissan, subaru or even hyundai before buying either of those cars.  they both have horrible service records and fairly disappointing customer reviews. do some research of your own and youll find the car thats right for you. if you come on here asking people youll never find one thats right for you. search customer reviews and reliability ratings and compare until you find something that your happy with.

I'd take the Mazda3. They're pretty sporty cars, get good mileage, and the interior looks like that of a much more expensive car. The same cannot be said of the Lancer. Check any of the major magazines for small car comparison tests. You'll see that almost all of them rank the Mazda3 over Civics, Corollas, Sentras, and most other small cars. The Lancer is usually towards the bottom of such ratings.

And they're a reliable car. If that's a concern, check Consumer Reports. You can find their new car buying guides at any bookstore. Don't listen to some idiot on internet who's jaded against everything that's not a Honda or Toyota who's never even sat in a Mazda3.
