Land in Alaska laws.?

Is it illegal in Alaska to travel out into the country on undeveloped land and build a cabin and live do I have to buy the property?

Currently the state of Alaska is not allowing homesteading in the traditional sense, they do offer land lotteries on occasion and cabin staking in remote (and I do mean remote) areas, where if your name is picked, you can build on the land and live there.  I think it is a $25 application fee and you must be an Alaskan resident for 1 year.

    There are people who just wander out and build, but you have to be careful about where you choose.  Much of the land is government land/parks/protected land, and then there is the land that belongs to the many Alaskan native tribes.  You would not be permitted to stay in any of those cases if you were found.

    I don't know your survival skills personally, but a word of caution seems appropriate.  Alaska is not a walk in the park, even in the summer months (research Timothy Treadwell and Christopher McCandless)  If you are caught unprepared, it can be a deadly mistake.
