Question:

Landlord Sending Me Threatening Emails?

I have fallen behind with my rent payment after an error with my housing benefit claim and my landlord has since given me notice to quit. He is now however continuously sending me threatening emails saying he will report me to social services for neglecting my children (as I had no heating/hot water for 10 days as he refused to fix my boiler). He has also said his local paper will be running a story about me, and he has emailed my employer also telling them I am a thief (due to not paying my rent).

Is he allowed to do this and get away with it ?

Thank You in Advance

  1. Maybe you could tell him that people are watching what he does and it will go better for him if he doesn't kick you and the kids out on the streets but instead tries to help you. The more people that know about him, the fewer new tenants he'll get and the Better Business will find out and he'll get a strike. It could even get worse for him because he might end up on tv etc. etc.

  2. What he is doing is totally illegal. He should fix that stuff and you could sue him for thretening emails too. Go down the citizens advice Bureau!

  3. Sounds like he's just trying to scare you a little. He could probably get into trouble also if he does any of those things.  I would save all the letters he sends you.  They might be useful to you in the future.

  4. It is something like this that will turn you into a homeowner so you never have to go thru this again.  My only worry is that you weren't keeping up with your benefits claim.  If you didn't know that they weren't paying, the landlord probably thought you weren't pushing the claim hard enuf.  Like you felt like it was his problem, not yours.  If you made every effort to get the claim, you can stay.  If the money arrives soon.
