What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

Hello I knew this landlord and we were very good friends. I used to pay him rent and not take a receipt. Anyway me and him had a fight and I left and went to rent an apartment somewhere else. He sued me in the court for 3 month rent.

He won the case. because I use to pay him cash.

Now I dont want to pay it. but they freeze my back account.

My question is: I have 2 cars under a company name which is owned by me. Can they take the cars from me.

  1. Assets belonging to you can be used to pay a debt owed by you!

My suggestion would be to either "appeal" your case...which sounds like you messed up by not maintaining receipts....of talk to your former landlord and make arrangements to pay him!

  2. If your company is incorporated, it is a separate entity and the assets of the company cannot be touch if you are sued. The same is also true if the company is sued: Your personal assets cannot be touched.

I also think this is a very good example on why they say friendship (or family) and business don't mix.
