We're looking to buy a piglet - don't care about registry - just a Landrace gilt piglet. I've searched the internet and haven't turned up any links.

I've tried the national registry of landrace's.

Anyone know any other avenues to use for resources? or do you know someone who has any piglets?

I included the UofA because they have Landrace in their breeding programs.  Have you gone to the county & state fairs and ask the 4-H & FFA kids where they have gotten their pigs they are showing?

I bought a really nice Hamp gilt for breeding this fall for $150.00 from the 4-H auction.  Or have you attended any livestock auctions.  If you know the breed you are looking for then go to an auction and bid on a pig there.  If you buy from a public auction I would quarantine  anything you brought home for  at least 45 days and worm it and vaccinate it with all vaccines.

You should also be able to contact the local Extension Office for 4-H and or call and talk to the teachers for the Ag classes at the high schools as they sometimes have a list of breeders.  You could also call large animal veterinarians, livestock feed stores or feed mills and ask about breeders in the area of Landrace pigs or just pigs.

Pig breeders usually know who has what and in what area.  So once you contact one and ask Do you know of any Landrace breeders within 150 miles.....they should be more than happy to tell you anything they know....

  2. depending where in the state you are i may be able to help. if you are within driving distance of Texas it'd be easy. this is the time of year when ag students buy their show animals, so just get a phonebook and call a few schools. talk to the ag teachers, several of my college friends are in that profession and always glad to talk shop. each of them seems to know where to buy any animal or feed locally. i'm sure one would help you.

  3. contact your county extension office they might have a list of breeder in your area
