The Stade Brest coach is not pleased with his side’s performance on Wednesday as Les Ty' Zefs were thrashed 4-0 by OGC Nice in Coupe de la Ligue
The 43-year-old has expressed his disappointment at the way his side played against Nice in their Coupe de la Ligue encounter.
While talking to reporters, Landry Chauvin stated that Brest were far from convincing in their defence and that cost them the match. The goals they conceded were very easy and the coach feels that his side should have done better to stop Nice from scoring.
"We were too shaky at the back and that cost us,” the tactician told reporters after the match.
The former Nantes coach stressed that Brest need to improve their defending if they want to achieve their objectives this season.
Chauvin added that his players didn’t play with confidence and they weren’t in right frame of mind. However, the coach has asked his players to forget about the defeat and move on, and focus on their upcoming games in the Ligue 1.
It was Brest’s second defeat by the hands of Les Aiglons this season, after Nice defeated them in Week 5.
“Defending is something the whole side has to do; it's about a certain frame of mind, and tonight we didn't have it. That's eight goals conceded in two matches against Nice [after Les Aiglons beat Brest 4-2 in Week 5], which is too much like history repeating
itself.”
Landry Chauvin, who was appointed as the head coach of Stade Brest in May, said that he really wanted to do well in the Coupe de la Ligue, and to exit in such fashion is just sad.
However, the coach is now focusing on club’s next game in the Ligue 1 and is looking to return to winning ways.
“I love the Coupe de la Ligue, and I would have liked to go further, but too bad for us. It would have been interesting to finish the match with 11 men and see how it turned out."
Stade Brest face AC Ajaccio in their next Ligue 1 game on September 29.
