Do landscape architect design outside space and architect design inside space?

  1. Basically yes.

    Architects usually design buildings (although some can and do plan whole towns). When they are doing this they decide where the buildings and other elements are going on the site: broadly they design both the internal and the external spaces. Frank Lloyd Wright even designed the cutlery for his houses, but many might think that is going too far.

    The detail treatment of the external space , including the surfacings and the planting is designed by a specialist landscape architect, similarly the internal space is designed by an interior designer. Architects can (and do) all of these things, but for large schemes it is usual to have specialists, because of the amount of information that has to be produced, as well as the amount of expertise required.

    Landscape designers may be involved in road schemes and other civil engineering works which would not necessariily involve an architect. They also run contracts and carry out assessments and management plans for existing landscapes.
