Lane Position One??

Question

What is lane position one on a freeway, and are you supposed to drive in it?

Freeway lanes are numbered starting with the one closest to the median.  You are allowed to drive in it. You will annoy other people if you stay in it when they are trying to drive faster than you.

It's called the "fast lane", located toward the center of the freeway next to the median. You should avoid driving in it, because no matter how fast you drive, there will always be tailgaters, those that drive even faster than you! I realized this when I was driving, others will get annoyed if you drive too slow, so try to keep to the right as much as possible.

Lanes number from the left, just like we read from the left.  The leftmost lane is #1, and the rule is ALWAYS slower traffic keep right.

Well, unless you're in England or one of the other countries that drives on the wrong side.  ;)  In that case, reverse what I just said.  See?  Confused, aren't they?

FYI, while we (as drivers) may call it "the fast lane," there is no such thing according to transportation and law enforcement depts.  Lane #1 is the correct terminology.
