why is the english language actually called english?

in america do they call it american?

i dont get it because england is just a small part of the UK so why is it so well known that it has a language named after it?

if you understand what i mean, can u let me know?

English is the primary language of the UK because it was England that united all the countries and made it all the UK.  It is called English because it originally came out in England.  Americans call their language English because it was majorly taken from the English language even though they English and American are very different, same as Spanish and Mexican.  Anywhere you go the language changes but it keeps the original name because that is where most of the language came from.
