Lankan Cricket Club bowled out at 266 runs - Sri Lankan ‘Premier League Tournament Tier A’
The Lankan Cricket Club was sent back to the dressing room for 266 runs in their first innings by the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club in the Sri Lankan ‘Premier League Tournament Tier A’ match, being played at P Sara Oval, Colombo between 29 April
and 1 May, 2011.
Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club won the toss and put the Lankan Cricket Club in to bat, aiming to restrict them to a low score. Tamil’s pace bowling duo of  Chanaka Welegedara and Suranga Lakmal produced good deliveries in the initial overs and were
rewarded with two early wickets.
Opener Ashen Silva was supported by Chanaka Wijesinghe. The two held back the storm and crafted a solid partnership of 93 runs for the third wicket. However, Wijesinghe was then declared leg before wicket off Rangana Herath at an individual score of 38.
Captain Hasantha Fernando joined in with Silva and they injected 45 runs for the fourth wicket before Fernando had to return, scoring 21. Silva was holding one end and the wickets kept tumbling at the other.
Roshan Laksiri consolidated the team’s stand and assisted Silva. Unfortunately, Silva missed his century by five runs, he had to walk back after a patient 95 off 208.
The seventh wicket contributed 51 runs and Roshan took over the charge, however, he was the eighth batsman to go back to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs off 65 balls.
A partnership of 33 runs was witnessed for the 10th wicket before the Lankan Cricket Club was bowled out in their first innings at 266 runs after 84.1 overs.
Welegedara was the most accomplished bowler of the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club with four wickets. Herath and Jeevan Mendis claimed two wickets each while Lakmal and Sachithra Serasinghe chipped in with one each.
Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club’s batting lineup is capable of chasing the target and can attain a reasonable first innings lead as well.
