Lap by lap Coverage of the Singapore Grand Prix (Part 1)
The long awaited 2010 Singapore grand prix was finally set to take place on the 26th of September. The top five cars took their grid positions around 1230 GMT, there was a threat of rain over the Marina Bay, and the race was expected to be a real treat for
the viewers. The drama level in this season has been excessively too much and as we all know, the 2010 season is far from over so the drama continues. The Singapore Grand Prix played a major role in increasing this drama, taking it to another level.
The drivers’ were getting ready to hit the track that contains 1500 light projectors. Sebastian Vettel claimed that the team had done its homework and they are hoping for a good start ideally, hoping to get past Fernando Alonso. He stated that there is no
room for mistakes and the team is confident about the Singapore grand prix in an interview just 18 minutes before the start.
The Singapore grand prix did not disappoint all the “p***y cat dolls” fans as well as Lewis Hamilton’s beloved; Nicole Scherzinger surprised Lewis, as he did not know that she was coming. Lewis was going to start 3rd place on the grid and hoped
that he would be able to impress Nicole.
His teammate Jenson Button expressed his views just minutes before the start of the Singapore Grand Prix. “It is going to be an exciting Turn One, but it's not going to win you the race. It is going be a very, very long race, just within the two hours time
limit”, he said. McLaren’s former chief Ron Dennis said that he would be surprised if Lewis or Button are not ahead of Sebastian Vettel by the end of the starting lap.
The lights illuminate the track with just 5 minutes to go from the start of the race followed by a roar from the crowd. The drivers took their respective grid places after the parade lap and it seemed that the race would begin in dry conditions. As the green
light illuminated, the cars rushed their way across the line. Fernando Alonso held a challenge from Sebastian Vettel off the line to lead the grid by the end of the first lap. Jenson Button tried to make a move on his teammate but could not find his way past
him. Mark Webber stayed in fifth place and it seemed that Nick Heidfeld was having some problems as his front wheel damaged forcing him to amble back to the pits followed by Felipe Massa in the pits as well. Tonio Liuzzi faced some tracking problems after
the end of the first lap and his Force India stopped on track. The second lap ended with Alonso leading the race and lead Vettel by just over a second.
A safety car was deployed for the third year in row at the Singapore grand prix and the race stewards were not happy with Tonio Liuzzi’s marooned car. Heidfeld went to the pits again with a suspension problem this time. Mark Webber decided to pit along with
the majority of the pack in order to take advantage of the safety car period. However, the leaders stayed out on track. Moments later, replays showed that Heidfeld collided into the back of Liuzzi’s Force India and things did not look good for Heidfeld on
his returning race. The Safety car was expected to leave the track by the end of the 5th lap and Webber was told by his team that the following phase of the Singapore grand prix is going to be frustrating as he dropped down to 11th place
after his pit-stop.
Webber passed Timo Glock in 10th place and came behind the Sauber of Kamui Kobayashi. Massa was now up in 15th place after starting at the back of the grid. Trulli suffered a left rear tyre puncture by the end of lap 6 and it seemed
that this was going to be an eventful race as it entered its next phase.
