Question:

Laparoscopic Cholestectomy (gallbladder removal)?

I am a 20 year old female and I am having a laparoscopic cholestectomy next week.

I am nervous and excited at the same time. I have been suffering for over a year and was misdiagnosed and had numerous tests before finally finding out that my gallbladder is not functioning properly. I do not have stones, my gallbladder just doesn't function properly.

I have read so many bad things on the internet and was looking for some positive stories. Also, if anyone has the same condition or has had the surgery, anything reassuring would be great. Please nothing negative, I've read enough of that and scared myself.

I already know what the gallbladder does and what's wrong with mine. I know I have to stay overnight in the hospital and I know they cannot guarantee that it will fix the problem, but I was told it is medically necessary and not a choice. I can put it off, put the symptoms are unbearable most of the time and I miss school and work a lot because of them. I know things can go wrong and had to sign forms acknowledging that.

Please give me some positive feedback!

Thank you in advance!

  1. i had my gallbladder and appendix out at the same time the medical staff will make sure your surgery goes smoothly you will receive pain meds to deal with post operation pain and one pain free (from surgery )you may feel much better gallbladder removal is one one the most commonly preformed surgery's you may have to go # 2 a little more often but that's about the worst of it and that may get better in time take care

  2. I know 3 people who have had it done, and they went home the same day! they also feel soooo much better, and the only problem the are having now is when they gotta go (#2) they gotta go! :) put they all said that was worth not dealingwith the pains anymore!

Good Luck! you will be fine and feel a whole lot better!

  3. also check to see it they will give an antibiotic afterwords to help guard against possible infection. Any bacteria that gets in there might grow and cause problems. Just something to think about.

  4. I once performed a laparoscopic cholestectomy on this Nintendo DS game called "Lifesigns: Surgical Unit", it was pretty fun.  I burned the patient with the electric scalpel by accident a few times though.

Laparoscopic surgery is less invasive and certainly an important development in modern surgical treatment.  Keep in mind that these forms with all sorts of awful complications described they make you sign are mostly to keep their lawyers and the people who  insure the doctors happy and not entirely relevant to reality.

  5. My story is very similar to yours.

I had horrible pains for about a year till they finally found out it was my gall bladder. The pains would be so bad that it was like I was having a heart attack but in the gall bladder area... Horrible!

I couldn't eat anything without pain!!

I had the surgery about 2 years ago....

    ... Saved my life!

Within a week I was back to my old self, I've had no pain in that area since and thank god that I got the surgery.

I was scared to death to get it done, but I knew that once it was done I wouldn't be in pain anymore with it. I can understand what your going through but trust me, its well worth it!!!

Your going to be amazed at the change after you get it removed! I wish you a fast and safe recovery!!!!!
