Laptop Battery, Jumps to Certain Percentage Suddenly....?

Hello..

I Have An Acer Laptop, and the battery is beginning to act weird. Now I Have The Laptop on charge whilst it's off. When it's charged, i start to use it, when the battery drains to approximatly 40% - 45% automatically, straight after that it goes to 5%, which onli gives me a couple of minutes to save what im doing and get the charger out again. this is the first time it happened. As Soon as it's on 40% of charge left, it just show's 5% a minute after.

What could be the cause to this problem, and if so how can i resolve this issue

Thanks in advance!

  1. You should take it back and tell them you have a leak and tell them its a bad battery they ought to let you replace it and if it is old just buy a new one.

  2. sometimes with laptops, the battery [percentage elevates, it could be the wireless signal, or you didnt recharge it fully, but try to recharge it, and the battery percentage should stay stable.

  3. Your laptop battery is probably going defective...they usually go defective after 1 or 2 years of being used. Laptop batterys aren't the cheapest too so if you have warranty on your laptop, get them to get you a new battery. I believe laptop batterys go around $200 each. Also having your laptop constantly connected to a wall outlet when full can also destroy your battery.

  4. Try a full discharge then a recharge to recalibrate the battery meter (won't make the battery work any better but might make it give you an accurate indication of how much charge it has) although I suspect there's something else wrong and that you'll have to send it in for servicing (should be free if it's still under warranty).

No it won't, in fact it is the best way to use the battery.

The idea that it's bad to leave the battery in the computer to trickle charge is based on a different battery chemistry to what is used in modern laptops (it's actually worse to constantly discharge the battery then it is to leave it in the computer).
