I have a 13 month old COMPAQ PRESARIO 15" NOTEBOOK, F503AU (paid nearly $1000 for it) one month out of Warranty and my screen is going green (dead pixels I am told by the people I bought it from when I phoned them today). They say it is probably all bad for me. Wondering if there could be any other reason for it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

  1. Screen colour changes are usually caused by the graphics card beginning to fail, or a loose connection on the graphics card.

On a laptop, the cable is usually about centre going from the screen into the board (you may have the power button in this region). On the laptop, press down (stable press, not too light) about where the laptop meets the screen (not on the screen, but the laptop part). The screen will go "normal" if the cable is the problem and probably return to green when you take your hand off it.

If the whole screen has gone green, it's unlikely to be "dead pixels". maybe Compaq can help you on "good faith". Alternatively, someone specializing in laptop hardware.

  2. i think it came close to a magnet. the screen i mean.

  3. A green or pink screen usually represents the death of an LCD screen. You CAN claim warranty on it, and if you still have it, I probably would claim it.
