Laptops are much better in my opinion. They are much more portable (obviously), and they have all the features and power of most desktop computers. Even if you don't go many places with your computer, it's nice to just be able to roam around the house with it, use it in any room, etc.

Downsides: sometimes more expensive, harder to repair/upgrade.

I've always preferred Desktop PCs. I've been building them for myself since i was 15 years old. I own an Hp laptop from a few years ago but i rarely use it now. By building my own PCs i avoid the instability problems that users of laptops commonly get thanks to all that unnecessary junk that comes installed on laptops. I also save lots of money because I can upgrade anything i want at any time.  

My Vista computer i built last Christmas is running in my bedroom and is the media centre for that room. My monitor on that machine is a 42inch LCD...yes 42inch. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse to navigate from my bed or my lounge chair, and with the large screen i don't need to be in front a desk to use my desktop. I installed a TV card with FM radio and I use 7.1 surround sound for my DVDs... so tell me, why would i even consider using a laptop at home?

I prefer laptop, but pc is cheaper.
