Laptop Screen Resolution / Graphics Card

Question

Hi. I have a 17'' HP 8710p which has a good graphics cardbut the resolution is 1440 x 900 Max. It is VGA but had I have had the other SVGA or WXGA (something like that) then I would get a better resoltuion with tiny crisp fonts and more screen viewing. I do have an old broken HP laptop - an HP Presario 1500 which also has a good graphics card but that screen was 15.4'' and it had a way higher resolution (somewhere like 1680 x 1400..cant remember)..Would it help if I used that old graphics card in my new pc to get a higher resolution???
