Laptop and T.V problem please help ?

Question

i have a HDMI lead connected from my laptop to the t.v but i can't get sound to come out from the t.v

how do i get sound to come out of the t.v

The sound is still coming out of the laptop I'm assuming? Well I'm not too positive if you could get sound out of the television. If you could I would guess it would be in the control panel under "Sounds and Audio Devices". Try messing with the output a bit. Like I said if it can be done I guess it would be there.

Your computer may be only outputting video through the hdmi port.  See the documentation to know if it will output both video and audio through that port.  If not you will need to get a seperate audio cable to carry the audio signal to the tv.

Hdmi cables carry both picture and sound but i think in most computer cases the hdmi cable will come from the video card and a seperate cord will have to come from the sound card with the audio in on the T.V

VIDEO CARD> HDMI ----------------------------------------...  HDMI PORT

SOUND CARD> 3.5MM AUDIO OUT ----------------------->   AUDIO IN

My setup is with a vga cable but its still the same, for audio out i use the headphone jack on my laptop thats all

you want to transfer the sound from your TV to your computer...could it be an analog vrs digital problem?
