I am going to Seattle next week. I heard something about battery of laptop can not be carried with luggage together.

It needs to put into the personal portable bag for check. Is it true?

  1. Sounds like you are carrying an "extra" laptop battery...right/  TSA site does not mention this type of battery, but does state batteries and devices should be in carry-on luggage...see site below.

  2. This is not true.  You certainly can and should carry it together with your laptop in your carry-on luggage.  I have never heard of separating them unless you are taking a spare battery which should also be in your carry-on.

  3. Sometimes the security check people will ask you to turn on a device to prove that it's what it's supposed to be, and not a disguised explosive.

If you don't keep the laptop and it's battery together, then this wouldn't be possible. I guess that's why you heard what you did.

Edit: doublechecked, and there's a new rule since january 2008: you can't put lithium batteries in checked luggage any more. You heard right :-)
