Laptop connects to wireless but no internet, even though my desktop's internet works?

My laptop's wireless internet was working this morning, then I took it upstairs (the router is down), and it was still connected to the wireless but I wasn't getting internet.

My desktop downstairs, that is connected by an Ethernet cable through my wireless router still has internet. I can still connect to the wireless but it still doesn't let me go online.

I connected my laptop to the internet via Ethernet and the internet worked fine.

I have an airport express that I plugged my internet into, to try and use it as my router (I unplugged the other router, too) and I can connect to it, but, once again, I get no internet.

It doesn't matter how close I am to the router(s) either, I still don't get internet.

My router is a few years old, it's Linksys Wireless G (2.4 GHz, 54Mbps) It was having problems with a REALLY old 2.4 Ghz phone, but we got new phones about a month ago (also 2.4Ghz) and the problem (the wireless went out whenever someone used the phone) stopped.

Help please?

  1. Check the status of the connection by placing your pointer over the network icon in the taskbar on the bottom right.

It should show you an IP Address (XP) or say Access "Local and Internet"

If not, then you may not be getting an IP Address.

Try right clicking on the icon and select repair and watch the output.

Another thing to look into would be WEP.  Is it enabled on both ends?  Same level of encryption on both ends (64 vs 128 bit)?  Same key on both ends?

    Just my 2 cents

    Les

  2. I don't know.  Try reseting the Airport.

    Good luck
