Laptop dell inspiron with a smashed screen?

dell inspiron 1501, smashed screen, but computer works, how do I reboot the vista program to recognize a PC monitor hooked up to the back without using the smashed screen?

By default it should auto detect the monitor once it is pluge in on the back of the notebook.

You could try and toggle by using F2.

For the LCD you could send it to your trusted local IT shop to have it replaced,it would be cheeper than sending it to dell.

Should do it automatically if the screens plugged in, set it in the bios before windows boots (F2)

Rip the smashed screen off and plug the working one.
