What do I need now to get it working? If anything please describe it and how to use it because I have no idea what I'm doing...I just know I want to put my DV camera footage into Windows Movie Maker so I can make a film and put it on DVD (oh and if you know what type of DVD blanks i need to get, please tell me?) Thanks ;)

  1. You probably need to update or reinstall your camera driver. You should be able to get one from the manufacturer support site of your camcorder. Good luck!!

  2. When you plug it all in, nothing will happen. You have to initiate the activity. This is firewire - not USB.

Presuming the firewire port is active (check by going into My Computer: Properties: Hardware: and make sure it is listed - if not, that needs to be fixed first. You need the correctly installed firewire drivers - not device specific drivers like USB).

Connect the DV port of the camcorder to the 1394 port on the computer. The camcorder should be plugged into wall power, too. The camcorder should be in "Play" mode. Launch MovieMaker. Under File, select "Capture"...

As for DVD blanks, that is up to whatever it is you are wanting to burn - I use Memorex DVD -R for single Layer and DVD +R DL for double layer. Some DVD optical burners don't do double layer... Other older DVD drives are "Read Only" (ROM), so it will depend on your hardware - you have not provided enough detail for appropriate assistance.
