Laptop. hello hope you can help i dont no if my hard drive is damaged but every time i turn it on

hello hope you can help i dont no if my hard drive is damaged but every time i turn it on i get operation system not found i put the rescue disc in and that comes up with error reading disc part no error code comes up all i no is that the hard drive light is on at all times and that it cant find system c the hard drive many thanks john
