Laptop memory slot question?

my laptop has 2 memory slots and can only hold up to a max of 2 gb of memory..is it better if i put 1 gb ram sticks on each available slot OR is it better if i just buy an entire 2 gb stick and put that on one slot? ...i'm woried that there'd maybe a bottleneck/congestion effect if i choose to put in a whole 2 gb ram stick on one slot

If it has a 2GB max, you can only use 1 GB stick in a slot, the 2 GB stick will not work. When it says 2 GB it is 2GB maxed. (All slots full of it's max potential which is 1GB per slot)

it would be better if you have 2 x 1GB memory, because it would make it easier for the computer to recognize.

1 gb per slot.  You put 2gb on a slot meant for 1gb and that slot may break.
