Laptop monitor screen isn't working but I can tell the computer is on, how do I fix it?

How can I put the computer to sleep if the screen is completely blank/black?!

do you get a post screen or is it blank from the start

If it is blank from the start may have a cpu problem

or a video card melfunction

if you get the post then you have the option of starting in safe mode to do this press F8 Key at the startup then start in VGA mode if it starts try adjusting your video settings

Hibernate/Sleep the computer and then revive it. That should fix it. I have the same thing all the time with my Lenovo work computer.

Edit: Use Quick Key combination! I don't know what it's in your computer. On mine it's Fn + F4. Alternatively, closing the lid hibernates the computer if it's been pre-set to do that.
