Hey guys I just bought a Compag Presario C700 2 days ago. Today I noticed that the power brick, while charging the battery and using the laptop, gets very hot - to the point where I can touch it for more than a few seconds. It is also emitting a light buzzing sound if i put it close to my ear..

normal? or should i look into replacing it?

  1. they make these fans you put underneath your laptop to keep it cool, it hooks on the bottom and works as a kind of upright stand at the same time...

  2. my laptop does that too. sometimes it gets too hot that it will shutdown. but what i do is lift it to where the fan can move the heat out of the laptop.

you could also just buy a laptop cooler!

  3. My power brick has  "Caution - do not touch - too hot" sticker on it.  If yours *doesn't* I'd have it checked out. If it does, it's probably fine and you would expect it to be really hot.

But hey, if you just bought it, I'd say you have nothing to lose except 25c with a phone call to the makers. You don't want to be worrying about that buzzing sound forever, and now is the very best time to do it because they'll replace it straight away if anything's even slightly dodge.

  4. normal both my power block a laptop burn to the touch of even less than a second and the buzzing also nomal mine has been doing this also and nothing wrong they all do it

  5. mine does that too lol. dont worry about it its normal. let me guess.. u plug in your laptop while its on? if u plug it in to charge it when the laptops off it wont get as hot

  6. then don't touch it, wait til it's cooler!!! duh

  7. To hot to touch? Then something is wrong. But, they do get warm,

  8. It is failing and I would recommend getting it replaced as soon as possible as this can lead to a major short circuit and possibly a fire.

  9. I would suggest turning it off for a few minutes to let it cool down a bit.
