I have a HP Pavilion dv6000, with Vista.

I have had it for about 5 months now..

and i already have 3 problems with it..

1. Sometimes it will turn of on it's own, (nothing to do with the battery), iv'e been told this happens because it over heats, and i sometimes block the fan with a pillow if im resting the laptop on it.

2. Recently the 'Add' 'Uninstall' & 'Change' buttons on the remove hardware page have dissapeared, and restarting doesn't fix it.

3. For the past 2 days, after a while the right-click button will stop working, and will only start working once i restart it, but then after a while it happens again.

I have virus scanned by laptop many times, cleaned it internally and externaly, and now all im thinking about doing is taking it back, as i have a 1 year warranty..

if anyone can please help i would appreciate it heaps, i really don't want to take it back if these problems are fixable..

  1. formating and reinstalling the os will solve the problem permanantly kardevi143@yahoo.co.in

  2. It seems like that is a serious problem. Don't try to do anything else. Just copy all your work in a flash drive or transfer to your desktop if you have one. Do it quickly as the computer still running and starts up. If you go do anything by yourself, it could worsen the problem. After that, I would recommend take it to the technician or reformat the hard drive with recovery CD, if you have it. If you run recovery cd, it take back your computer to the original factory condition, erasing everything inclding documents you created, software you installed. I think you should take it back to techinician and talk to them about the problem. They can give you manual direction to fix it or fix it by themselves.

  3. Answers 1: Never block the air vents which are at back panel or side panel of laptop, this blocks the air ventialtion and may damage laptop processor, to avoid this our new age pc turm them off, but its definately not good for PC health. you may use a hard surface (like a pad) below ur laptop, or if u keep it on ur lap take care ur not blocking air vents.

Answer 2: Check ur account type, if you are not administrator of ur pc then you cant do this operations. go to control panel and then to user account and check ur account type. if it says limited user then u need to login with administrator account and then change your account type to administrator.

Answer 3: It seems like you pc is not responding at that time, can you do any other operation when right click does not work?, can u use left click, if yes then its hardware problem, if not then its normal pc freeze, it may be fixed by more RAM in your computer or by some pc performance increase methods.

Just for your info as you are using vista, RAM must be 2 gb so that vista works smooth like water, if not then try reducing some animation features from Appreance settings.

If you dont know how to do what all i have mentioned above feel free to ask.

  4. sounds like a pretty dodgy unit to me, if it's in warranty i would take it back - especially if its only 12 months...
