Laptop question? please answer?!?!?

a want to buy a new laptop but i have a question.

it says on the laptop i'm looking at that it has a hdmi input or output or whatever. but what does that mean?

like does that mean i could plug in my ps3 and use the hd laptop screen as a tv?

or does it mean i can just connect a tv so i could play computer games on the actual tv

"input or output or whatever" is VERY important...

Output means it can only display, input means it can only receive, if it's says input and output, it can go either way.
