Laptop screen flickers and color is distorted

Question

my laptop is a tecra S1. It is about four years old. It has horizontal lines and lateral pin lines all across the screen. They flicker and the color of pictures is very distorted. I can read text fine on it, but anything with color is all messed up. The predominant color of everything is pink. I can see outlines of pictures, but not the correct color.
