Question:

Laptop slowing down/stalling?

At random times, my laptop will slow to a crawl and take forever to do an action. However, if I wait a while, it'll eventually do the action. This happens every few minutes. Could anyone point out what it is?

The laptop itself makes a sort of stalling noise.. Like, you know how a computer will make noises if its processing something or just like performing actions like opening a program? That's the same sound the laptop is making, but instead of it just being kind of like a flurry of sounds, it stalls so it goes ....beep...beep...beep until it unfreezes.

I've scanned for spyware/viruses/done a system restore, but the problem still remains. Is it the actual hardware itself? I don't really know about these kinds of things.

Oh yeah, and my laptop is an hp pavilion dv1000.

  1. Sounds like your HD is having a nervous break-down!

You might clean out any un-needed programs and defrag.

You might be trying to run a memory intensive program that depends on your HD.

About three years ago I bought a laptop, with 512Mb and onboard video, that runs as slow as mud, if I don't regularly clean the drive of Old Files and Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and Viruses, then Clean the Registry of all errors.

The HD led would stay on and you could hear a soft buzzing sound

    Go Figure!.

  3. Scandisk your hard drive and defrag it hopefully it's not a hd going bad

  4. use frostwire its the same program but a clean version. or try resetting you firewall to default. i use utorrent 1.8 for downloadind and never had a problem
