Question:

Laptop to tv, how?

I've got DVD-quality movies on my laptop and instead of watching it on my 14.1" laptop screen, I'd rather watch it on the 52" big screen downstairs.

I don't want to go with the burn-to-blank-DVD route because portability and space-saving are issues. I don't want to invest in anything involving a projector because, well, I'm not rich.

So how do I accomplish this?

For arguments sake, if hardware is required, let's say I'm restricted to external products only.

Oh, and my laptop does not have a S-Video output. It's an old-school IBM T22 Thinkpad, if that matters.

Couple of things:

- Please don't answer if you don't know.

- Please, if possible, give me links to products you refer.

- Please, if possible, give me an estimate price of what this would cost me.

- I don't want to watch TV channels on my laptop, please don't confuse what I'm trying to do.

  1. i would set my lap top on top of the 52 inch t.v. no extra wires to hook up

  2. Assuming your TV has a component RGB input all you need is a VGA to component cable to hook it to your tv.  Here is a link

If 3' is not long enough just buy some barrel connectors and connect to a longer component cable.

    hope this helps.

    weeder

  3. Go to www.cablestogo.com.

Look for connectors and cables that would match your laptop, as well as, your TV.

Usually VGA cable is the best route to take. ($20)

  4. Does your laptop have a VGA (monitor) output on it?  If it does and your 52" TV does, that would be the best way to connect the two, and it would only cost about $10 for a VGA cable from newegg.com.  Check out newegg.com if that solution doesn't work for you there are many cables and adapters for sale to convert connections on your laptop to connect to your big screen tv.

Since your TV doesn't have VGA, use this product.  It converts the VGA signal from your computer and converts it to either Composite or Svideo for your TV.  It costs $80 from Newegg and should solve your problem.  Here is the link:

  5. get a usb tv card that has the svideo plug on it.

  6. s  video cable

the S-Video connector is the most common video-out connector on laptop computers, however many devices with S-Video outputs also have composite outputs.

my toshiba satelite had a yellow video out put so i used to hook that up to my big screen and i would use some y connectors for the audio to my stereo and then set my laptop to tv and adjust it under screen properties

    good luck
