Laptop to tv question?

i have this small hdtv it's a magnavox, i bought a vga to hook my laptop to the tv so i can use that as a screen. the tv comes equipped with a channel specifically for this it's the pc, it's like the video channels used for the dvd and whatnot only this one is for the computer. the problem is this, when i hook up my vga to the tv, it says "no signal" then i restart my computer and you can see the hp logo and the "resuming windows" if i just had it hybernated but then it loses the signal again. what am i doing wrong?

  1. I'm assuming your using a laptop

    you need to press FN+F4

    The Function button is on the right of the left CTRL Key.

    Do you see the little box like picture on the F4 Key?, thats the key you need to press next. Sometimes it's located on different keys so just a heads up.


  2. You probably need to activate the external output video of the computer.  To make it dual output. It is either in the control panel> display or as a FN+F(1-12) key on the keyboard. Look for a second TV symbol on the key.

    You see the display on the TV briefly because both outputs are active until Windows sets the display driver and you have yours apparently set to display on the laptop screen only.

  3. You might not be able to do it. If you can, switch your laptop's screen resolution to the lowest possible, 800x600 or 640x480. Then try it again.
