Laptop webcam not working?

ive only been able to use it twice. when i go into webcam settings in MSN it says: i cant change my settings because its not plugged in or in use. but it is plugged in and im not using it for anything else/ ive reinstalled twice now. why does it keep doing this its doing my head in

plug it ...check all connections...then install driver...

without driver (software ) anty hardware can't work properly...

I think your driver isn't installed properly
