  1. check device manager (found in the properties of my computer) If it is coming up with a yellow question mark by it you do not have the correct driver installed, if this is the problem I would recommend getting the driver from the manufacturers website (not through windows). It could also be a resource conflict, but I am no expert on fixing that so I dont wanna confuse

  2. You have not provided enough information.

    What laptop are you using?

What camcorder are you using? Is it miniDV tape? Is the camcorder in "Play" mode?

If it is a Windows laptop and you check the hardware profile under My Computer, is IEEE1394 working properly?

If it is a Macintosh, is Firewire enabled?

Reminder: Firewire is NOT USB and USB will NOT transfer miniDV tape based video.

  3. Your camcorder should have come with a disk that has all of the drivers. Insert the disk and follow the instructions on how to install, that is if your camcorder is compatible with the current operating system.

You can also download the drivers for your specific camcorder from the manufacturers website.
