Ok, I have a Dell Laptop Latitude D810 running WinXP SP3

I can not get Firefox or IE to bring up a web page. It shows connected by WiFi and Cat5. I have replaced the Win Sock and nothing. I also uninstalled all of the firewalls. (Win & Norton) I have 2 icons in the Network Connections folder 1) Local Area Connection 2) Wireless Network Connection, am I missing something?

I need your help, what else can I try?

Thank You

Ardris

  1. You might simply be connected to an external router that has a limit on the number of connections allowed. The signal is there but your laptop's attempt to obtain an IP are simply being rejected.

    Added:

As you have an IP check for a through connection. Type Run then Command. When the DOS window opens Type

    Ping 216.239.59.147

That is the Google.com IP address.

Are you getting any error messages from your browsers?

    2nd Addition

Go back to IPconfig but add /all

    You should have

    1) your ip

    2) subnet mask probably 255.255.255.0

    3) ip of default gateway

    4) 1 or more DNS server ip's

If any of these are missing you have network software setup problems.

If they are all there I cannot see why 2 different browsers cannot get out other than a virus that is catching the interrupts generated by these programs and simply dumping them.

  2. mine does it somtimes it usualy fixes it if i unplug the modem and the router and just leave them unplugged for a few inutes then it is fine
