Laptop won't play sound anymore?

My dad's friend did some work on my laptop and it used to play sound and music but now when I plug in head phones or speakers nothing comes out. I try to adjust the system volume but everything is grayed out. Can somebody please help me?

make sure mute isnt on

check to see for any bent cables.

check to see if cables are connected properly.

check to see that it is not on mute.

click control panel

a new window will open

click sounds,speech,and audio devices.

click on adjut the system volume

there turn up the volume.

for windows sounds

open control panel

click on sounds,speech,and audio devices.

a new windows will display on your screen

click on

change the sound scheme

a new window will open

click on the tab that says sounds

under sound schemes

click windows default

click ok

restart computer

make sure the hardware is working properly

check for any dust on the speakers and clean it with a soft cloth

how to check if your default audio device is selected

open the control panel

click on sounds,speech and audio devices

a new window will open

click on change the speaker settings

a new window will open

under sound playback make sure your default speakers are selected.

to make sure the hardware is working properly

click on start menu

right click on my computer

a new window will open

click on the hardware tab

click on device manager

click on the + next to sound,video and game controllers.

make sure the device is working properly.

if it is not you should get an error code.

if it is not workinfg properly right click on the item that is not working and click on properties.

a new window will open

click on troubleshoot and it should give you the steps to solve your issue.
