Question:

Laptop won't stop typing T's!?

I have a Toshiba laptop (I don't remember the model) I bought at Best Buy about a year and a half ago so it's still considered pretty new. Unfortunately, I didn't get warranty on it because I didn't think anything would happen. It came with a one year warranty but it started acting up after I've had it for a year. Every time I turn it on, it will beep very loud continuously until I press escape on the start up screen. Once everything is loaded, it's as if the letter "t" is being repeatedly pressed until I press escape again; and then it will not work at all. Either I have the T keep typing by itself or it won't work at all. I took it to Best Buy and they told me that they'd charge over 150 JUST to ship it to Toshiba manufacturers; not including the actual fixing. Any other ideas on what I should do to save a bit money?

  1. Hello from the computer tech:

Laptop keyboards are very sensitive but here are the only two quick things to try.

    1.  Try tapping on the T with the computer off for about a minute.  Something could be jammed into it.

2  Purchase a can of the dry air that you can purchase at any electronic shop and spray it under the T key with the R or Y pressed down in the off position.

It sounds as if something damp has gotten into it.

Lastly if all else fails try taking it to a regular shop that has techs onsite.  Most places like Best Buy and Futureshop has very few Techs they just wanna send everything away.  You may be able to find a local that will change out the Keyboard for a reasonable price.

Have a gr8 day, hope this helps.

If you are in ontario and would like to ship it to my location and pay the shipping their and back I would look at it for you and give it a whirl.

  2. You're "T" key is probably sticky or stuck.

I assume you've tried tapping your key hard, which is what I do when one of my keys gets stuck...

Try taking it to a computer/tech shop somewhere, maybe they can replace your key there.
