Laptops on Roaming Profiles inside and outside the network?

I am slowly rolling out Roaming Profiles on my network. I am running Windows 2003 Standard Edition. I am facing trouble when my laptop users come in and out of the network. I'll set up their roaming profile when the laptop is in the network and the profile seems to load and save settings fine when inside the network. But, when they leave the network and take the laptop home or wherever, they get the expected error that the computer cannot find the profile and is setting up a temporary profile. This makes sense to me because the laptops cannot find the server because it's not inside the network. I think my solution is going to be to just not use the Roaming Profiles for users that come in and out of the network.

Does anyone have any suggestions on this matter to continue to use Roaming Profiles on laptops that come in and out of the network but
