Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino ousts Jana Cepelova in the first round – Tashkent Open 2012
World number 91, Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino, cleared the first stage of the Tashkent Open at the expense of the 103rd ranked Slovak upcoming star, Jana Cepelova. She won the encounter in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 taking just
a couple of minutes more than an hour.
It was a good start from the 20-year-old Spaniard who looked confident at the hard courts of Uzbekistan; didn’t allow any opportunity to the 19-year-old Slovak competitor to settle down into the atmosphere. She started the match
with a bang and continued to introduce guile in her game play that kept her opponent thinking.
Vecino won four of the first five points at the courts and bagged the opening serve game of the match. She carried the momentum into the second game and won the first two points that dismantled the confidence of her rival. With
two more winners, the Spaniard won the second game of the match and the first breakpoint. It was a terrific start for the 20-year-old Spaniard who was in search for a good start to trounce a year younger Slovak competitor.
The 91st ranked Spanish player retained the momentum and won the third game as well; didn’t look back from that stage winning another breakpoint in the sixth game and survived the scare on her serve to clinch the opening
set with a resounding lead of 6-1. It was a commendable start from the Spanish youngster who was all over her opponent.
Cepelova couldn’t win a single point in the first serve game of the second set; failed to grab any rally to in the return game and went down to a trail of 0-2. She wasn’t able to hold her opponent from winning the second breakpoint
as well despite a tough fight in the third game. Vecino hanged on to her serve in and mounted the lead of 4-0.
A serve hold at both ends coupled with a trade of breakpoints kept the lead of the Spaniard intact. She held her serve in the eighth game to win the encounter. Next up for the Spanish youngster will probably be the fourth seed
Slovak, Magdalena Rybarikova, who will have to save a first round upset at the hands of the qualifier.
