Lara Jackson clinches Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day Three – ConocoPhillips Nationals Championships
Lara Jackson of Tucson Ford Deal clinched the title of Women’s 50m freestyle on Day 3 of the ongoing 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships on Thursday, August 4 at the aquatic centre of Stanford University.
ConocoPhillips is a seven-day national long course championship, which provides an opportunity to national swimmers of USA swimming to compete with each other in their main events.
24-year-old Jackson, who entered the final with a fastest qualification time of 25.11 seconds, improved her timing by 0.13 seconds to earn the gold medal for the 50m event. Her time was 0.11 seconds faster than her subsequent swimmer, Madison Kennedy of
Unattached-PC, who accomplished the podium for silver medal, by submitting an effort of 25.09 seconds.
Kennedy was in a lead of 0.10 seconds from her following swimmer, Kara Lynn Joyce of Colorado Stars-C, who stepped on the podium for bronze medal, by submitting a time of 25.19 seconds.
Joyce was trailed by Kate Dwelley of Stanford Swimming, who remained just 0.08 seconds behind the bronze medalist and clocked a time of 25.27 seconds for the fourth finest spot.
Dwelley’s team member, Samantha Woodward remained just 0.06 seconds behind her and occupied fifth fastest spot of the event, with a timing of 25.33 seconds. She was traced by Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA on the finishing wall, as Weir was just 0.07 seconds
behind her and claimed sixth position of the event, with a timing of 25.40 seconds.
Margo Geer of Tucson Ford Deal remained only 0.02 seconds behind her former swimmer and surfaced as the seventh position holder of the event, by clocking a time of 25.42 seconds. Meanwhile, Geer’s team member Kaitlyn Flederbach ended her swim for the eighth
fastest spot, as she posted an effort of 25.48 seconds.
Jackson was delighted with her finish and also expressed her aspiration of continuing the same at future events. In addition, the winners were awarded medals for their noteworthy swims after the session.
