How are large ships designed to carry heavy cargo?? PLZ ANSWER!

  1. the hull is designed so taht it does not displace as much water as weight of the water it takes up, it is the shape of the hull that does it.

    take a peice of aliminum foil, crumple it up, it will sink like a rock, now flatten it out and form it over the bottom of a bowl, it will be a boat and you can put cargo in it.


  2. While the above answer gives a very basic example of displacement. The other factors are will the cargo bend the decks and frames of the ship and if so need to be strengthened . the other problem is does the cargo move easily like iron ore can shift in a storm as the ship rocks this can unbalance the ship and sink it. other problems can be how high up a cargo can be hauled in relation to the ships water line if the cargo is stacked too high the ship will again be unbalanced and roll over. all this problems are handled in the design stage by putting limits on how much cargo can be hauled and what type of cargo is hauled.
