Large bee in my yard! Help!

I found a really large bee in my yard the other day. It was about 1 1/4 inches long, and it had a large body also. It was black and yellow, and looked like a cross between a bumble bee and a yellowjacket. But it was seriously HUGE! I didn't know bee's that large existed. Does anyone know what kind of bee it could be? I live in Michigan.

  1. A carpenter bee, make sure it's not living in any wooden parts of your house , under the eaves etc. They can do a lot of damage.

  2. it's difficult without a picture, but i'll post this one so you can see if it matches: a cicada killer (since cicada's are being seen a lot right now)
