  1. The largest one caught on rod and reel, according to the International Game Fishing Association, weighed 1,208 kilograms (2,664 lb). Several larger great white sharks caught by anglers have since been verified, but were later disallowed from formal recognition by IGFA monitors for rules violations.

As for the actual largest one caught by any means, it was probably over 4000 pounds and 21 feet long, but verification has been difficult. Claims of bigger sharks often turn out to be fish stories when people show up with cameras and tape measures and scales. The biggest on record is probably a 21.3 footer taken in Cuba in 1945, though even that one is disputed.

  2. About 19 feet.  There have been lots of "false reports" of larger sharks.  See:  http://www.elasmo-research.org/education...
