Larry Beinfest believes Heath Bell’s trade will help offseason roster improvements – MLB News

Miami Marlins’ President for Baseball Operations, Larry Beinfest terms the trade of Heath Bell good for the team as well as for him. He elaborates that in the offseason it will be easier now to make decisions regarding the changes in the roster for the upcoming
season.
The exclusion of Bell can allow the Marlins to utilise the money, which was to be paid to him, to be put in those areas where the improvements are required. Furthermore, it can reduce the ambiguity which prevailed regarding the future of Bell in the team.
Bell has been a disappointment for the club this year. While he was acquired to ascertain that the Marlins put up an incredible performance in the 2012 Major League regular season, he has not lived up to the expectations.
Heath is considered a reliable closer and that is what motivated the Marlins to obtain him in the first place. Unfortunately, he did not finish his closing job successfully in a number of occasions during the season.
He yielded runs late in the innings and far from leading the team to victories, he cost them a few defeats in important matches. The worst part was the fact that he was given opportunities time-and-again and yet he could not learn from his mistakes.
The Marlins will be considering new options. During the offseason, they may be looking to find reliable relief pitchers. Other than the bullpen, the Marlins confront various other issues that need proper attention and resolution before Spring Training.
For instance, they lag behind most of the other teams in the National League East Division in terms of their offensive strength. Apart from Giancarlo Stanton and a few other exceptions, their players lack capability of striking home-runs on a consistent
basis.
Beinfest appears to be extremely satisfied after the trade of Bell as he intends to introduce changes in the team as part of his preparations for the forthcoming seasons.
"This should be a positive change for Heath and the Marlins," Larry Beinfest said. "After a disappointing 2012 season, Heath gets a fresh start and this move gives us clarity as we begin our offseason roster improvement."
It will be interesting to keep track of the events related to the Marlins and as to what kind of team they will have by the start of Spring Training.
