Larry Beinfest clarifies that Giancarlo Stanton will not be traded after Winter Meetings - MLB
Last time when Baseball Winter Meetings took place in Nashville, the Miami Marlins removed Miguel Cabrera from the roster through a trade. The decision turned out to be a fatal mistake from the part of the management as players acquired in his return did
not serve the team as was intended in the latter years.
Winter Meetings will be underway in Nashville again. It will be interesting to see if the Marlins are still considering any trade involving exclusion of their star player from the team.
Giancarlo Stanton is the player that comes to mind while one thinks another trade that the Marlins might execute, following the Winter Meetings.
Interestingly enough, the Marlins do not want to repeat what they did five years ago in Nashville.
President of Baseball Operations for Miami, Larry Beinfest has explained that sending Stanton to some other organisation is not on their agenda right now.
Beinfest has also mentioned the trade of Cabrera years ago that proved counter-productive for the club. He has regretted the move.
Learning lesson from it, he has elaborated that Stanton will not be treated in that manner. Instead, he has expressed the plan of investing in him and making Giancarlo the pride of the franchise for the future.
Stanton is one of the few stars left with the Marlins after a recent fire sale by them, which shipped most of their reliable players including Jose Reyes to the Toronto Blue Jays.
In-fact, fans of the club look up to him for producing splendours and helping the club put up respectable performances next year.
Beinfest has dumped the possibility of removing any superstar from the roster during the Winter Meetings.
"I wish it would have worked out better for us. It didn't. We thought we got the right guys at that time and it didn't work out. In terms of that trade and re-visiting it, I don't think we'll spend a lot of time on it," Beinfest said.
Earlier reports came to light suggesting that the Marlins will agree on trading Stanton, as part of their all-out selling of the players this offseason. However, later it was clarified that it is not on the cards.
It will be interesting to see the outcome of the meetings and how it relates to Giancarlo.
