  1. holmes controls the action with his jab, and presses the action against the cagey veteran walcott, to take a unanimous decision.

  2. Jersey Joe would keep Larry off balance for the first few rounds.  He could also hurt Larry with his power.  In the early going it's Larry's jab vs Jersey Joe's footwork and power.

After a scare in round 4, where he was nearly put on the mat by a sneeky left hook Holmes finds himself even with Walcott after round 6.  Walcott is now moving gracefully about the ring.  The problem is that he's not scoring enough to gain the respect of the judges.

Larry's straight punches find the mark more often than Walcott's hooks.  Holmes hurts Walcott with a right uppercut.  Walcot is in trouble as Holmes has him the  against the ropes, landing at will when the referee steps in to stop it just before the bell to end round 12.

    Holmes by TKO in 12

  3. Larry Holmes, in 12 rounds, by more points.

  4. Larry Holmes will use his jab and reach advantage to win an unanimous decision.

  5. Jersey Joe Walcott was a very clever fighter who seemed to get better during the latter part of his career.  He also had decent power having once knocked out Ezzard Charles for the title, knocked the great Joe Louis down twice in their controversial 1947 title fight and Rocky Marciano for a short count in their 1952 title fight.  At his very best, Walcott was a very good fighter and a difficult test for anyone.  Larry Holmes of course is well reknown for that great jab of his and he also had decent power and a good chin.  This fight would be dictated early on with Holmes's great jab.  Walcott would roll and slide using that trickery of his and be able to land some fast punches on Holmes on the inside from time to time surprising Larry with his skillfullness.  There would be no knockdowns, but plenty of exciting moments during this fight.  I have "The Easton Assassin" Larry Holmes winning the majority of the rounds against Jersey Joe and taking a close but unanimous decision.  Good question sir.

  6. Walcott

  7. Walcott was a lot better than people give him credit for, and almost beat both Louis and Marciano.  He would give Larry fits early, but the one constant from one to fifteen would be the Holmes jab.  I have to side with the majority on this one and pick Holmes by decision as well.

  8. Holmes by a TKO in round 14, Walcott would run out of gas by that round
