Larry Nelson disappointed with PGA of America
Larry Gene Nelson, an American professional golfer, has won numerous Professional Golf Association Tour and Champions Tour titles.
Of the ten PGA Tour titles, he has won three major championships.
In 1981, when Nelson was part of the Tour, he won his first major title. He displayed a marvellous performance, which eventually paid off in the form of a four-stroke win.
The next major championship title he won was in 1983, as he won the U.S. Open. During the tournament, he showed what he is truly capable of. Nelson made one of the best comebacks of his career by making a charge after a seven-shot deficit halfway through
the tournament.
By delivering such a feat, Nelson carded a score of 65 and a 67 on the last 36 holes on a course, which was not a walk in the park for a player of any level.
The Professional Golf Association of America has announced that it will be including a senior player, as captain for the Ryder Cup team.
The news was appreciated by the veteran golfer, but he was disappointed with the fact that he was not the one chosen for the job.
Nelson has a decent record on the Ryder Cup. Hence, it was surprising for him when his inclusion in the squad was not announced.
The American has a 9-3-1 record in the Ryder Cup and has participated in the tournament thrice.
The famous Golf Digest speculated that the PGA of America is planning to pick up Tom Watson, who is another golfing pioneer from America.
If Watson is made captain this time around, it will be the second occasion on which he is being given the same appointment.
Nelson has won the PGA Championship twice. He won his second in 1987 with a delightful performance on the course and claimed the title, which was rightfully his, after he exhibited such a marvelous performance.
In the Masters Tournament, the best performance by Nelson was when he claimed the 5th position back in 1984.
Nelson should be tested as captain. He has all the shots in the book and should be an option for the PGA of America in the future for the Ryder Cup.
