The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is delighted that the Reds were interested in him, but has insisted that his future lies with his current side.
The Bavarian giants were interested in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Martinez-c24468 had hit the rocks and they saw Bender as
a perfect candidate who can add to the quality at Allianz Arena.
However, Leverkusen rejected the bid from their Bundesliga counterparts and Bayern went on to sign Martinez from Bilbao for a staggering €40 million.
Bender admitted that he was honoured to have heard about the interest from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window. He stated that the Bavarian giants are certainly the best club in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 and to hear from them was flattering.
The midfielder insisted that he had never thought about leaving Leverkusen and claimed that he is willing to honour his current contract at the BayArena. He is looking to lead his side to a UEFA Champions League place at the end
of the season.
“It is an honour for me that the greatest German club has expressed an interest. But I have a contract at Leverkusen, and that is all that counts,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The German international stressed that the importance of a defensive midfielder has certainly increased in the last few years. He added that a midfielder is the link between the defence and the attack so it is a very important
position.
“Our type of player is really important, because we are the link between defence and attack. This type of player has always been important. But today it is even more so because the game has gotten better and faster,” he continued.
Bender insists that he can still improve as a player and regards http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sami-Khedira-c32325 as his role models.
